5/17/2006 - After the server that the website was hosted on finally gave its last breath and quit all together two weeks ago, DJCybian.com has finally found a new home!
I want to give a big thanks to Pixeled and their hosting services at Illuminated Hosting for providing a stable environment for my site. I would also like to thank them for the technologies that they offer and prompt service in setting my account up. I look forward to a long business relationship with this company.
However there have been some casualties with the server crashing. Although I am more than aware on how important it is to back up your files, I of course did not have a fully backup copy of the website. Basically I used to make all my static changes for the site on multiple computers. This of course led to having multiple versions of different files on numerous computers and then losing them as the files moved from computer to computer.
Static pages were not the only casualties in the great scheme of things. I also never had a backup copy of the database, which was also lost in the crash. So, all Links, News Updates, Guestbook entries, etc. are lost forever. The database has been rebuild and the data entry is commencing.
There is a silver lining to all this chaos. It has forced me to evaluate all my code and update the code as appropriate. This is especially true with the JavaScript code since the functions that were used within the site were created many years ago for browsers that are becoming obsolete. I will also be adding some new features that will hopefully help with bots and scripts automatically filling in forms with SPAM in the Guestbook and Links sections. A big plus is the email server will be working properly and I should now receive emails from the site. The email function has not worked for years becuase of the quirks with the email server
I will be uploading my site in sections, so please be understanding if you receive 404 errors when navigating through the website. But I would like to start getting the web site up and running because there are certain sections that are linked from various sources and need to be live. Lastly I know I have not changed the design in a few years because I have been busy with finishing up my degree. I am happy to say that I should be graduating at the end of summer and one of my first priorities is to redesign the website.
